My love for Dev runs deep. SYL‘s Alien laid the foundation, DTB‘s Synchestra solidified my respect, and when Ziltiod reared his ugly, coffee-swilling mug, I championed his arrival. Then, inexplicably, I completely lost touch when Ki and Addicted were released in tandem a couple years back—in fact, I still haven’t heard a note to this day. And you know what, dudes? With Deconstruction and Ghost mere weeks away from their June 21 unfurling, I’m gonna do something that will hopefully be fun, exciting and rewarding:  listen to all four sequentially. Sometimes procrastination pays!

Anyway, here’s the track listing for the two albums. With a cripplingly-awesome who’s-who of the Metalverse on Deconstruction (plus a full orchestra, not to mention Jens fucking Bogren mixing alongside Townsend), and Ghost being described by the man himself as “the mellowest (by far) and prettiest record I’ve done”, I expect quite an interesting ride.

Deconstruction
01. Praise the Lowered (featuring Paul Kuhr of Novembers Doom)
02. Stand (featuring Mikael Akerfeldt)
03. Juular (featuring Ihsahn, ex-Emperor)
04. Planet of the Apes (featuring Tommy Rogers of Between the Buried and Me)
05. Sumeria (featuring Joe Duplantier of Gojira and Paul Masvidal of Cynic)
06. The Mighty Masturbator (featuring Greg Puciato of Dillinger Escape Plan)
07. Pandemic (featuring Floor Jansen of After Forever)
08. Deconstruction (featuring Oderus Urungus of Gwar and Fredrik Thordenal of Meshuggah)
09. Poltergeist

Ghost
01. Fly
02. Heart Baby
03. Feather
04. Kawaii
05. Ghost
06. Blackberry
07. Monsoon
08. Dark Matters
09. Texada
10. Seams
11. Infinite Ocean
12. As You Were

Not only that, but have you heard about part one of Townsend’s North American tour? Children of Bodom, Obscura, and Septicflesh are his support bands. This will be as much visceral as virtuosic, and I am abslutely pumped.
