Hails, and welcome to MindOverMetal.org! Vermont’s longest-running, most-consistent, and fucking-best source for METAL comes from Mind over Metal—once & still a radio show, we’re now an international collaborative force that specializes in reviews, photography, podcasts, interviews, and more.

We love to see authors find their own voice, and that’s what I want from myself and our contributors. Whatever your subject, write honestly, as well as you can. But you must be entertaining, and give people a reason to read your work. An excerpt from the excellent On Writing Well by William Zinsser:

“Any number of methods will do the job: humor, anecdote, paradox, an unexpected quotation, a powerful fact, an outlandish detail, a circuitous approach, an elegant arrangement of words.”

Everything on this site passes my eyes before posting and—to a greater or lesser degree—undergoes an editing process (my own content typically receives three passes before going up). Your sentences must function with purpose, your paragraphs flow into each other, your articles make a point. It’s okay to be somewhat imitative, just not plagiaristic. Our punctuation policy is simple. Bands are bolded, albums italicized, songs come “in quotes”. Everything else falls under standard American English grammar rules, except I like British quotation usage. I will edit your work to reflect this, unless you specify. In order to contribute, register via the link on the right and contact us with your intents.

Besides internet immortality, you may also earn money here. Transcribing interviews was once a thing, and there might still be need in the future. However, I’ve decided to try something new. Music blogging is typically volunteered time with a free album at best, sometimes interviews, and maybe a ticket/press pass hookup. Well that changes now, because you can get paid for posts here at Mind over Metal. Starting average is $3 USD via PayPal, though I will absolutely negotiate for outstanding content. Adding links, placing photos, using the WordPress interface itself, and generally minimal editing from me can all mean more cash for you. And once you become a reliable contributor, so increases the reward.

I will introduce formal reward structure if necessary, but this is a start. And you need not be super-involved to enjoy Mind over Metal, either. Check out the ‘Follow Us’ tab to keep up in whichever way you please, or simply subscribe to new posts on the right.  Our legions grow—join us!
