Speaking of friend-pimping… recognize Keenan Bouchard's art?
As long as I’m posting about free EPs, I may as well pimp my friends that are playing at a show I helped arrange: Shai Hulud @ 242 Main w/ Alive & Well, Crucial Times and Crown of Lions this Sunday! If you live anywhere around the Champlain Valley, come early, cuz this will sell out.
The Rot of the World is 22 minutes of good metalcore (well, 20 minutes with a sweet 2 minute feedback vs. synth comedown)—and I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty badass. [Ed: they have since added a fifth song, which brings the runtime to 30 minutes, and apparently the track order doesn't matter so much] It sounds like Converge, Coalesce, and other bands with combination-style names from the 90s: traditional yet progressive, heartfelt without sappiness, forbidding and listenable, with great lyrics that you can even understand…mostly.
Hey Josh, I just now heard shades of Bruce Fitzhugh in your voice, only way less Christiany. By the way, thanks again for introducing me to Shai Hulud, and have fun as direct support the night before your birthday! I’m very interested to finally see all these groups live.
