Mogwai-Special-Moves-Front600

Rating: 5/5 …

I drooled at the mindboggling concept of a Mogwai concert album and film. This is one of the few bands that has made me physically lose my breath; it was during an apocalyptic rendition of their classic track “Mogwai Fear Satan” in the darkened club So What! in Oslo in the late nineties. So expectations were running quite high—to say the least—when I opened the package from the record store. Would my expectations for this album be fulfilled? Oh, yes.

Maybe I’m just an ornery fan who can’t get past a sound shift, but “Warp Riders” has proved to be one of my biggest disappointments of the year. You guys can enjoy the new sci-fi stuff all you want. I’m gonna go listen to “Freya” and “Winter’s Wolves” and continue my worship of Thor and Odin.

BEHEMOTH leader Nergal has just found out he needs a marrow transplant to fight his recently-diagnosed leukemia. In light of this, he wants to remind everyone about the need to be on the marrow registry. The more people get tested and donate, the more of a chance for life there is for him and people in the same situation.

Scream album cover

Review: 3.5/5 …

The difference in personnel helps change some of the overall sound, but not significantly enough to properly spotlight Gus G. guitar, above all else. I feel that this latest group will release more unique material once they become more comfortable playing with one another. Still, this is a remarkably consistent offering from Ozzy, his tenth studio solo release. Commodified as he may have become, it is reassuring to see one of Metal’s originators trying this hard.

Everything about this sounds badass: from the guest appearance by the legendary Scott “Wino” Weinrich, to the inner booklet featuring actual X-rays and MRIs from various injuries sustained by all four Earthride members over the years. That, my friends, is TRUE!

Christian-Mistress-Agony-And-Opium

Their infectious blend of classic heavy metal and West Cost thrash, combined with their own organic creativity and the prominent female vocals let the band be classified as traditional as well as original.

Destruction Of A Rose-American Hell

Rating: 1/5 …

Las Vegas has actually sickened me. I was once caught there in a stopover between flights and figured “hey, what the hell, let’s see a casino”. Between the bright artificial lighting, elevated oxygen levels, and desperate sense of failure permeating the atmosphere, I found myself lumbering through the joint with queasy disdain. Destruction of a Rose is at the forefront of the Vegas metal movement, but are unable to even produce nausea; simply put, none of this music matters.
