
Blackened thrash titans, SKELETONWITCH, swing back into action as they kick off a run of headline shows, in Boston MA. HOWL and IRON AGE support on all the dates, with DOOMRIDERS and BLACK TUSK appearing on select dates. In April, the band will head out on a North American tour supporting the legendary CANNIBAL CORPSE, alongside new label mates in 1349 and South Carolina’s Lecherous Nocturne, including a stop at New England Metal and Hardcore Fest on April 24th.

In the past, fusing jazz and metal has proven to be a melodic, complex form of technical death metal. Floridian acts like Cynic and Atheist really defined this movement. However, jazz and metal are two of the most diverse genres in the world, so it wasn’t going to be too long before other breeds were seen. Shining is offering one of the most interesting styles to come around yet.

If I could describe this album in only a few words, I would call it Black Sabbath on steroids. Many of the riffs here do bring to mind Vol. 4 and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, but there is more: more energy, more volume, more head crushing. If Hello Master was the band just after inventing the tank, then Prior to the Fire is that same band dropping an atomic bomb on our minds.
