Alestorm – Black Sails At Midnight
Released: March 27th 2009 on Napalm Records
Rating : 3.5/5
Alestorm does it again! Though keeping their first album (Captain Morgan’s Revenge) unbeatable, this crazy pirate band can definitely score an A+ for consistency. Lead singer Christopher Bowes remains true to his punk-rock/grunge style vocals. An ecclectic incorporation of trumpets, accordians, and bagpipes with the electric distortion creates a classic epic sound to the music.
I must include the slight disappointment in this album, however. I hoped for slightly more creativity and song structure, and a little less sloppiness and being generic.
Raise your pints to “That Famous Ol’ Spiced”! What would Alestorm be without their classic pirate-esque drinking songs?
Sounds like: Tyr, Turisas
