Brutal Truth - Evolution Through Revolution

Brutal Truth - “Evolution Through Revolution”
released April 14, 2009 on Relapse

Their very name contains the two things that most metal bands strive for. After a 10-year hiatus and a few recent, promising compilation appearances, the NYC grindcore innovators return with their first studio album in a dozen years (their sixth overall). Similar to the godfathers, Napalm Death, and latter-day luminaries like Pig Destroyer, Brutal Truth display an inventive ferociousness that makes repeat listens a necessary pleasure. By blitzkrieg or mortar, they’ll pummel you one way or another, delivering drop-tempo grooves (6) and lurching sludge (12) amidst instrumental experiments (15, hidden track) and their trademark chaotic assault. The only new member is guitarist Erik Burke, who demonstrates he is quite capable of keeping up with the progressive ebb and flow of the veteran band (check 17 & 20 for great examples of this).  11 is a 6-sec midalbum marker. 19 is a sweet Minutemen cover.
