Devil To Pay- Heavily Ever After
released October 26, 2009 on Lax Wax (added 3/12/10)

Devil To Pay is a band from Indianapolis, IN that plays a mix of 70s metal, doom and proto-grunge. They’re made up of Matt Stokes (bass), Chad Prifogle (drums), Rob Hough (guitar) and Steve Janiak (guitar and vocals).

A first listen brings to mind hints of Black SabbathDown and COC. Getting deeper into it, Track 1 has a decent amount of grungy rock that sounds like it could have come out of the mid-90s. Track 2 arguably has a strong Sabbath feel to it while also invoking Church Of Misery. Basically, a decent interpretation of doom with the smoky, mid-70s feel. Tracks 5, 8 and 13 continue more of this theme and basically, you have solid riffs and competent instrumentation to check out. Track 11 has a decent drum intro, showcasing Prifogle’s desire to rise above the other instruments.

Regardless, this is another decent album for lovers of doom and grunge as well. It doesn’t tread new ground but rather sticks to a trusted method.
