Dusted Angel Earth Sick Mind
Release Date: 2010Oct12 (US)
Label: Corruption Recordings
Rating: 4/5

Dusted Angel hails from Santa Cruz, CA and consists of Clifford Dinsmore (vocals), Bill Torgeson (drums), Eric Fieber and Scott Stevens (guitar) and Elliot Young (bass). They focus mainly on stoner doom with jamming on certain tracks.

“The Thorn” gets everything off to an excellent start with upbeat, toe-tapping sludgy doom, somewhat in the vein of Kyuss; it first appeared on 2009’s Dusted Angel EP. Things really take off with “Tards On Shards”, which has a very eerie opening, followed by lots of toe-tapping riffs/beats. Torgeson and Young nearly steal the show here, offering plenty of ear candy for the dedicated listener. Similar in length, “Scottstober” has a nice droning, fading psychedelic feel upfront with a similar blueprint as the previous track. Normally, putting two epic tracks back-to-back could create fatigue for the listener, but don’t see it here. “Dogwhistle” evokes a sound that should appeal to fans of Grand Magus.

I really enjoy Earth Sick Mind, but I wish that there was more variety to their overall sound. They did try with “Tards On Shards” by weren’t able to follow it up. Regardless, you really need to check out this album if you like stoner doom and are looking for something fresh and tasty.
