Free Reign - Tragedy
released January 26, 2010 on Riot Entertainment

When handed this CD, I was told that it may be too commercial for college radio. I’m not so sure about that as I have given the new Fozzy album a spin or two.  I’ve just never seen a band made up of NFL players and this band is made up of members of the Dallas Cowboys. It features Mark Colombo (vocals and lead guitar), Leonard Davis (bass), Corey Procter (drums) and Justin Chapman (guitar).

Track 1 has a standard textbook metalcore feel and seems quite polished, bringing to mind bands as diverse as Hatebreed and Anthrax. Track 3 is reminiscent of Tool and seems quite radio-friendly. Track 4 is more of an attempt at a ballad, which doesn’t interest me. Track 5 seems to be the most interesting and that’s saying a lot for this EP.

All in all, it’s certainly better than the “Super Bowl Shuffle” but they have a long way to go to find their niche. May I suggest trading in the pigskin for instruments full-time?
