Freya – All Hail The End
released January 19,2010 on Victory Records

Freya is made up of three ex-members of the straight-edge band, Earth Crisis. This is their first release since 2007’s “Lift The Curse”.  To avoid making stereotypical name-dropping, I’m just going to say that this sounds very little like Earth Crisis and that it automatically reminds me of modern Hatebreed due to the crossover appeal.  Now that the name-dropping is out of the way, let’s concentrate on the tracks at hand.

Track 1 starts off this album with what can be described as a basic hardcore intro in which the drums soon pick up at a frantic pace, forming a time signature that is a hybrid of sorts. Not a bad way to start off an album. Track 4 is certainly one of my favorites because of the drumming at the beginning, which gives way to a slow, prodding signature with slight hints of frantic drumming thrown in. 2:10 into the track, the pace slows down slightly more and seems to reverse itself. Track 6 is a break from the slow, complex pace of the other tracks and sounds more like an intermission of sorts with the focus being on the drumming once again. Track 12 once again puts the focus on the drums. It seems like Joseph Murphy’s element of thrash drumming seems out of place on some songs (Track 1) and seems to work in other places (Tracks 4 and 12). Overall, a decent album that shows that Freya is making strides with each passing album.
