Let’s get this out of the way: the album title is contrived overwrought silliness, as is the artwork. But do the Danes have the music to match? This is their sixth try in a decade, and while they appreciably stay on the darker side of power metal, I seldom seek them out. I actually wish “Metalmorphosized” was composed the way it’s titled, because the tunes themselves are underwrought.

What can I say about Heaven & Hell that has not been said a hundred times over? Not only are we talking about the best version of post-Ozzy Black Sabbath, but “Neon Nights” is the last recorded live document of Ronnie James Dio.

Black Anvil’s music is the kind that will be confined to the metal racks at the record stores, the playlists on heavy radio stations, and at gigs in sweaty clubs all over the land. Just the way we like it.

I’m just relieved to hear this band moving in a direction that feels more purposeful; still experimental, but making better choices for their grander vision.

“Heavy Metal Thunder” is great if you’re looking for background noise for a night of drunken partying and unprotected sex. You won’t remember much of it the morning after, but it will compliment the sound of vomit splattering the inside of your toilet.

This album is a mixed bag of sorts, and sometimes seems rather formulaic. There are a few gems, but otherwise left me expecting more after hearing the “Man Of No Account” EP a few months back.

If you really enjoy older hardcore with a bit of a crust/grind/thrash edge to it, you will certainly enjoy “Insecurity Notoriety”.

Hailing from the UK, Witchsorrow is a new trio that is influenced by bands such as St.Vitus, Trouble, and Reverend Bizarre. I did get slightly bored with their longer tracks, but I believe they can take advantage of the ability displayed on “Gomorrah” & “Impaler, Tepes” and run with it. Fans of doom metal should definitely check out this great debut from Witchsorrow.
