Review : BELPHEGOR - "Blood Magick Necromance"

Review : BELPHEGOR – “Blood Magick Necromance”

Rating: 2.5/5

Most of the songs on “Blood Magick Necromance” are pretty good, but that doesn’t make it a good album. It has lots of potential in many different areas, but none of them quite meet the standards they’ve set in the past. Don’t waste your time with this album unless you’ve exhausted their older releases.

Review : ABYSMAL DAWN – “Leveling the Plane of Existence”

Rating: 4/5

Abysmal Dawn have produced a very good album that satisfies today’s need for straightforward death metal. If you are looking for something you can throw in a playlist with bands like Decapitated, Miseration and Decrepit Birth, “Leveling The Plane Of Existence” would be a perfect addition.

Review : FULL BLOWN CHAOS – “Full Blown Chaos”

Rating: 3/5

Full Blown Chaos sticks to what they know with this release. Unfortunately, they’re 10 years too late. Clean up the sound, vocals and please, for the love of Alex Jones, write about something relevant for a change.

Review : THE DAMNED THINGS – “Ironiclast”

Rating: 4.5/5

I nearly panned “Ironiclast” after the first spin. The more I listened, the more I was able to appreciate the effort that went into it, especially the lyrical content. The Damned Things show a lot of promise on this effort, and if Keith Buckley ever decided to teach higher education, I’d personally sign up for his lecture.

Review : MOGWAI – “Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will”

Rating: 4/5

“Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will” is a record that shows Mogwai are eager to explore new territory. It’s not perfect, and some of these songs feels like B-side throwaways to me, but as always, it’s a thrill to follow them into the unknown.

You just cannot predict albums this great, only champion them once they arrive, and Crowbar is set to strike harder than they ever have before.

Review : EARTH - "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1"

Review : EARTH – “Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1″

Rating: 4/5

Back in 1993 when “Earth 2″ hit the streets, nobody would have said that Earth would end up a psychedelic country outfit, but look where we are now. “Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1″ may not be a landmark for the band, but it stands with its two predecessors as a strong statement for any artists who wish to redefine themselves. In this case, it took a suicide and drug addiction, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t another way.

Review : DEVILDRIVER - "Beast"

Review : DEVILDRIVER – “Beast”

Rating: 3/5

DevilDriver is an absolute template for 21st century American metal, and I cannot say I’m proud of that. You can call this “extreme metal” all day and night, but it’s just not the case. When you can telegraph half the songs’ flows; when the words are this trite; when the tunes blur together and you retrace your steps to a very song called “Blur”—be wary of these signs, they’ll lead you down a dark, boring, ultimately safe path.

Review : TITANS EVE - "The Divine Equal"

Review : TITANS EVE – “The Divine Equal”

Rating: 3.5/5

Moving forward, Titans Eve are already ahead of other bands on their debuts. While most artists have hardly started building their foundation, these guys have the whole house built. The only work left is painting and furnishing—purely cosmetic procedures. “The Divine Equal” is a good debut, but it will take time before they release anything to gawk over.
