This is no party album, people—these are mediations in the key of despair, and I would not have it any other way. While this record feels like a vast improvement for Tombs, it’s not the sound of a band that has run out of ideas; in fact, it’s the sound of a band developing into its own entity.

Looks like I wound back around to Kylesa to conclude. Seems appropriate, considering their career trajectory feels similar—this trio just has two fewer members. And even though forefathers like Helmet are showing more promise than they have in years, there is plenty of room for Goes Cube to grow in The Big Apple’s concrete jungle.

This has certainly been a good year for bands like Sweet Cobra and their musical approach. I would recommend checking this out, especially if you enjoy Coliseum and Black Tusk.

Black Anvil’s music is the kind that will be confined to the metal racks at the record stores, the playlists on heavy radio stations, and at gigs in sweaty clubs all over the land. Just the way we like it.

If you really enjoy older hardcore with a bit of a crust/grind/thrash edge to it, you will certainly enjoy “Insecurity Notoriety”.

There’s a rumour that “Recitation” is Envy’s final album. If that is true, then this sadly leaves quite a bit to the listener’s imagination. They don’t reach previous peaks, though much of “Recitation” comes close. Fans of the band will undoubtedly enjoy this offering, but new listeners would be wise to check out their classic “A Dead Sinking Story” first.

It may take a while for one to find nuances in this album but it is well worth the listen. This is my first exposure to Pro-Pain and it was a pleasant surprise.

This is a special live release from Infectious Grooves and Cyco Miko, which are technically the same people but with a slightly different style. The sound quality could be better but otherwise, an interesting set to review.
