Ensiferum is on the tips of all folk metal fans’ tongues these days. Quite possibly the most well-balanced of the genre, owing as much to light as they do to the darkness, the Finns have forged a niche in a runestone that’s readable by all. What are you into? NWOBHM, black metal, Viking metal battle metal, epic metal, whatever the hell you wanna call this…it’s so hard not to enjoy! Sami has been with the band for about five years, and has become the band’s principal lyricist since joining. A handful of names come to mind when you utter the phrase “American Death Metal”, and Obituary certainly holds a top slot. Archetypal in their xecution (I couldn’t resist), the Tampa natives continue to release relentless assaults, and their latest album, Darkest Day, is no exception. Not only that, but John and Donald Tardy also unveiled their first collaboration entitled Bloodline earlier this year, just in case your earholes were thirsting for more.

Morgan “Evil” Steinmeyer Håkansson is the longest surviving member and founder of Marduk, one of the most influential bands in the second wave of black metal.
