I puzzled over the name Horseback as an appropriate title for ambient black metal. Perhaps this is what it feels like to have a heroin addiction that’s hard to shake, so instead of a monkey on your back, there’s a horse, get it?

If there is any one distinguishing feature of Mose Giganticus, it is not simply the fact that multi-instrumentalist Matt Garfield creates all of this music himself, but when performing live, the dude slings a mean keytar. And in a way stripped of the goofiness and/or irony that bands like DragonForce or Horse the Band employ.

Behemoth releases cover artwork and title of upcoming DVD. Band to hit the road with Watain, Withered, and Black Anvil as support; tour starts this November!

What continues to be refreshing about Misery Index is their ability to craft meaningful, well-balanced songs with just the right mix of technicality, catchiness, and straight-up brutality.

This is a fantastic album from an up-and-coming band who can only get better with time. While it’s easy to think that Black Tusk a clone or knock-off of similar bands from the same area, you’d be doing them a grave disservice if you didn’t listen to this album from start to finish. “Taste The Sin” is easily one of my picks for 2010

I never knew that I would be interested in the sonic equivalent of hanging out alone in a dank basement, getting stoned, while burning pasta on the stove.

The last thing this Rhode Island foursome leaves you with on their debut full-length is the charge “may everything dirty win”. HowL’s followup to their eponymous 2009 EP does just that. ‘Full of Hell’ is a gloriously ugly massacre, clouded with rage, clogged with resin, clawing through bodies of the fallen.

Every nation should have a band to wave the grindcore banner; Finland follows their ears to Rotten Sound. I’m glad to now place them on my map as well.
